Getting Work with Mates on the Move After the Mates for Life Program

After completing the Mates for Life program, participants have the opportunity to join Mates on the Move, a social enterprise that provides meaningful employment and further support for former prisoners. Here’s how it works:

Employment Opportunities: Mates on the Move offers a range of job opportunities in areas such as logistics, removals, and recycling. These roles provide stable, paid employment, helping former prisoners to gain work experience and build a solid employment history.

Skill Application and Development: The skills learned during the Mates for Life program, such as digital literacy, financial management, and job readiness, are put into practice in real-world settings. This hands-on experience is invaluable for personal and professional growth.

Supportive Work Environment: Mates on the Move fosters a supportive and inclusive work environment. Colleagues and supervisors understand the unique challenges faced by former prisoners and provide the necessary support to help them succeed. This environment helps build confidence and resilience.

Career Progression: The program is designed to be more than just a job; it’s a pathway to a career. Participants have opportunities for advancement within the organization, allowing them to take on more responsibility and develop their careers over time.

Community Engagement: Working with Mates on the Move also helps former prisoners reconnect with their communities. By providing valuable services, they contribute positively to society and build a sense of purpose and belonging.

Ongoing Support: Even after securing employment, participants continue to receive support from Prisoners Aid NSW. This includes mentoring, additional training, and resources to help them navigate any challenges they may encounter.

Mates on the Move is an extension of the Mates for Life program, offering former prisoners a chance to build a stable, productive future through meaningful employment. By providing ongoing support and opportunities for growth, it helps individuals to thrive and make positive contributions to their communities.
