What is Mates Storage?
Mates Storage is a service by NSW Prisoners’ Aid that collects and stores personal belongings for inmates, up to 1 cubic metre.
How do I use Mates Storage?
Speak with your SAPO, Wing, or Unit Officer to fill out a Referral Form. Your belongings will be collected and stored for free. Or please inform your family member/friend to contact the SAPO, Wing or Unit Officer when you speak to them.
What items can Mates Storage store?
Mates Storage can store clothes, personal documents, small electrical appliances, and other personal items. Prohibited items include food, alcohol, plants, animals, tobacco, lighters/vapes, medication, illegal items, and anything flammable.
How long will my belongings be stored?
Your belongings will be stored until after your release. You have up to 3 months (90 days) to arrange for their return.
How do I retrieve my belongings?
Contact Mates Storage via our phone number at 02 9666 5937 (Option #2) or email at referral@prisonersaidnsw.org to arrange collection or delivery.
What happens if I don’t collect my belongings?
If you do not collect your belongings within 3 months (90 days) after your release, they will be discarded or donated. If you return to custody within this period, inform the SAPO to continue storage.

When you are ready to retrieve your belongings, Mates Storage offers flexible options. You can arrange for in-person collection by appointment, or if you live within 100km of the Sydney GPO, we may be able to deliver your items directly to you. For those outside this area, we offer postal or courier services.
